Causes and Beginning

What were the major causes of the American Revolution?

The American Revolution began in 1775 as an open conflict between the united 13 colonies and Great Britain. The road to Revolution developed slowly over time. Many events contributed to the American Revolution.
In 1754, the French and Indian War began. This war was between France and Great Britain. The British used the colonists to help win the war. The colonists helped the British because they believed that they would get land in return. But instead, the British did not give them anything in return for their work. This caused tensions between the British and the colonists.
After the French and Indian War, in 1763 the British made the Proclamation of 1763. This proclamation prohibited settlement beyond the Appalachian Mountains. Britain did not intend to harm the colonists, but this proclamation angered many colonists.
In 1765, the British made the Stamp Act which required the colonists to pay taxes on stamps. The amount of money the colonists had to pay didn't anger them. The colonists were angry because they didn't feel respected by the British. The colonists wanted to be independent, and capable of making their own laws. Also during 1765, the British made the Quartering Act. This required all colonists to allow British soldiers live in their homes.
These events were the major causes of the American Revolution. When the British made new laws for the colonists, it angered them because the colonists wanted more respect from the British. The colonists believed that they had the right to their independence. The British did not understand how the colonists felt, which caused the American Revolution.

Which political theories did the American colonists use to justify their revolution? Why did they choose these?

The British did not respect the colonists, or let them become independent, which angered the colonists. The colonists wanted political rights. Another idea is that if you don't like the government, you can get rid of it. The colonists wanted "No taxation without representation".
